Time Sensitive: Annual Gathering Ceilidh Format Survey

The BC Pipers’ Association seeks your prompt input to determine what format the 2013 Annual Gathering Ceilidh should take, given recent limitations imposed by the venue.

In January, the Annual Gathering organizing committee planned for a Ceilidh area in the Atrium of the SFU Maggie Benston Centre that would

  • enable all ages of people to attend
  • encourage playing pipes and drums by youth and adults
  • include performances by the aggregate winners
  • include the Clansey Cup event, an impromptu Hornpipe & Jig competition for all pipers
  • include a roped off area for adults wanting to consume alcoholic beverages

Despite assurances at the time from the venue that this was permitted, the venue has now indicated that the complete Ceilidh area must be for adults only if alcoholic beverages are being served. Thus the following choice must be promptly made:

Should the Annual Gathering Ceilidh be:

  1. All ages event still in the Atrium, at which only non-alcoholic beverages would be served; or
  2. Adults only event at the SFU Highland Pub (next to the Maggie Benston Centre), at which alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages would be served.
