Piping for Highland Dancers: A BCPA Seminar with Liam Hilder Jan 8

Join former Triumph Street Pipe Band piper Liam Hilder at 9:00 AM January 8 for a BCPA weekend seminar on piping for highland dancing.  Liam’s seminar will provide an overview of the types of highland dances, how competitions are structured, the most important skills necessary to successfully pipe for dancing, how to develop these skills, musicality, and diving into a few dancing tunes.

As a young solo competitor, Liam was a familiar face on the BCPA competitive circuit, and won multiple grand aggregates as he advanced through grade levels. Notable competitive highlights include representing BCPA and winning both the Nicol Brown and George Sherriff Memorial North American Amateur Championships in 2014. He now enjoys teaching and competes at the professional level.

As a young boy, Liam found himself at many highland dancing competitions cheering on his younger sister, Andrena, who was a competitive highland dancer. This eventually led to him starting his career piping for highland dancers at age 16, becoming a regular dance piper in the Fraser Valley and BC Highland Dancing Associations locally. At age 19, Liam was advanced to the championship list, and has since had the pleasure of piping for two United States Inter-regional Championships, and other championships in California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and BC.
