The passing of Terry McHardy

BCPA has been informed of the November 29 passing of Terry McHardy, a former Pipe Major of the Seaforth Cadets Pipe Band, Vancouver Police officer, and manager of J.T. McHardy’s Scottish Supplies in downtown Vancouver in the late 1960s to the early 1970s.

Terry’s father was John T. McHardy, Pipe Major of the 2nd battalion Seaforths during World War II. John started a Scottish supplies shop out of his home off 25th and Cambie then opened a shop on Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver. J.T. McHardy’s Scottish supplies was basically the main source of piping supplies in Western Canada from the 1950s to the mid 1970s.

Terry was previously married to Betty Thom, a prominent highland dancer. He played for many highland dancing competitions on the Pacific Northwest highland games circuit.
