Boney Music Invitational Piping Competition and Recital – February 13, 2016

The BCPA is pleased to announce the Boney Music Invitational Piping Competition and Recital sponsored by Andrew Bonar.

The top five pipers in the 2015 BCPA Open Piping Grand Aggregate standing will each perform a medley of various musical styles. The best performance will receive the newly sponsored Boney Music Invitational trophy.

Date and Time: Saturday February 13 at 7:00 pm, Doors open at 6:30 pm

Price: Admission by donation. A donation of $10 per person is recommended. All profits will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation.

BCPA is accepting donations for the event and will issue Canadian charitable tax receipts for donations of $20 or more. Donations may be made at  http://bcp3a.cloverpad.org/page-1157926  and enter “Boney Music Invitational” in the Comments field.

Location: Halpern Centre, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus.

Free parking: Free parking will be available in C Lot from 2:00 pm to 11:30 pm on the day.

As this event follows the BCPA Special General Meeting in the Halpern Centre (from 3:00 – 5:00 pm) BCPA is supporting this event by providing the Halpern Centre rooms and C Lot parking at no charge to the organizer.

Food and Bar Service: Bar service will be available at the Halpern Centre, however there will be no food service.

Club Ilia, located on campus at the Cornerstone Building (8902 University High St, Burnaby), will be offering their dinner menu from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at a discounted price of 10% to attendees of this event.

The Halpern Centre and Club Ilia are fully licensed facilities with all ages permitted.

Come to the BCPA Special General Meeting, enjoy a discounted dinner meal at Club Ilia, and then attend a great night of fine piping by BCPA’s top Open pipers.

Competition Format:

Players will play a 20 minute recital of tunes of their choice. However, within the 20 minutes, players must include the following:

  • Ground of a piobaireachd
  • At least two two-parted strathspeys
  • At least one four-parted 6/8 march
  • At least one tune written by a BCPA member
  • At least one tune written by a Canadian composer not from BC

Players may tune as often and as long as they feel necessary. However, the longer the player tunes, the less time that the player has to perform, as the tuning time is included in the recital time limit.
