Eight-time Glenfiddich champion piper, Willie McCallum, is giving an instructional workshop on Friday, July 10th in Mount Vernon, as part of the 20th annual Skagit Valley Highland Games. Space is limited for the workshop, which runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm on July 10th. The cost is $60, and includes lunch. Please contact Beth@Celticarts.org to register for the workshop.
McCallum will also be performing in recital on Friday, July 11th, 2014 at 7:30 pm at the Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. That event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10 per person—all proceeds are being donated by Mr. McCallum to the Celtic Arts Foundation’s Littlefield Celtic Center project. He will also be adjudicating piping events at the Skagit Valley Highland Games on Saturday, July 12th at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon.
Born in Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula of Scotland, today McCallum makes his home in Glasgow and is a much sought-after performer and instructor, worldwide. He is also a regular participant in the Celtic Arts Foundation’s annual Winter School and Masters of Scottish Arts concert programs.
His list of accomplishments include winning the Glenfiddich World Piping Champion 8 times, Gold Medals at both Oban and Inverness, and virtually every other significant solo piping competition.
McCallum said:
“I’m pleased I can help by doing a benefit recital as the Celtic Arts Foundation is a very important organization, feeding into the piping and general Celtic scene. All the good work they do is raising the levels in that part of the world, I’ve seen it first hand and I’m hoping to help continue that process in some small way.”
“The Celtic Arts Foundation also does an awful lot of work behind the scenes to help UK and Canadian pipers and drummers get to other events in the US. It’s nice to repay them and put something back in.”

The suggested donation for the performance is $10 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the new Littlefield Celtic Center project being constructed in downtown Mount Vernon.
