August 12, 1979 – Triumph Street Pipe Band wins the Grade 1 World Drum Corps Championship

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Triumph Street Pipe Band winning the Grade 1 World Drum Corps Championship at the 1979 World Pipe Band Championships in Nottingham, England.

At the time, it was the highest championship prize captured by a BC pipe band, which also included the remarkable achievement of two BC bands, Triumph Street and City of Victoria, capturing 5th and 6th prizes respectively in the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championship.
