Pacific NW’s best pipers to celebrate 2019 Tartan Day

BBC Pipeline to broadcast portion of Tartan Day concert.

Jori Chisholm

A wonderful evening of Highland bagpiping from some of the Pacific Northwest’s top open pipers is planned for National Tartan Day in Mt. Vernon, WA on April 6, 2019. Seven accomplished pipers have been invited to compete in this unique event that will also be streamed live on a webcast produced by the Celtic Arts Foundation. These pipers have all played and won numerous prizes at North American and Scottish piping competitions—and in a few cases taken home the most coveted awards available.

Dr. Gary West of Edinburgh, Scotland will emcee the event. Dr. West is the host of BBC Scotland’s acclaimed “PipeLine” program. Parts of this event will be rebroadcast on a future PipeLine in Scotland, adding to the events that have been broadcast from the Littlefield Celtic Center in Mt. Vernon. This will be the first piping event held in North America to be featured on a PipeLine program.

Refreshments will be available for purchase. Doors open at 6:30PM.

Each participant will perform a 10-minute musical selection, comprised of tunes of their choice and style, promising an evening of diverse and entertaining music for the audience. Invited pipers include:

  • Alastair Lee, Coquitlam, BC
