A free workshop for performances bands (non-competition bands) will be held at the BCPA Annual Gathering on Saturday March 31, 2018 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at North Delta Secondary School, 11447 82 Ave, Delta, BC.
The workshop will be led by senior piping and drumming instructors and leaders Shaunna Hilder and Gregor Merry with registrants indicating the topics they would like addressed. For example, here are some possible topics to consider requesting:
– hands-on instrument setup
– leading a band through an effective practise
– support for leaders new to their position
– gaining access to instruction
– making practices, rehearsals, and event performances musically interesting for band members
– encouraging former players to take up their instruments again
– effective techniques for teaching mature beginners
– balancing ability levels across the corps
– encouraging bands to perform for audiences at highland games, and
– any other topics of interest to the band
