Fellow Drum Majors,
Once again we are running an RCMP / CAF Drum Major’s Course (#3) at Ottawa’s Carleton University from the 15-20 May 2017.
The purpose of this e mail is to ensure we spread the word to other potential or current Drum Majors across Canada who may be new to the role, or wish to hone their skills further.
While instructors will arrive early for work up 13-14 May, the course candidates can clear in later on the 14th May ready for course commencement early on 15 May. The course runs daily ending in the afternoon of 20 May.
The cost of the course will be in the range of approximately $320.00 which will include accommodations in university dorms and meals (2 candidates per room). Candidates will be responsible for their own transport to Carleton University but if driving a personal car, parking is available at a reasonable rate at the University. Final actual costs will be confirmed shortly.
The course will be similar to past courses and will include many hours of drill daily on the parade square in the uniform of the candidate’s band with an appropriate mace. There will be pre course study and preparation requirements (Massed Bands tune familiarity and a candidate bio). The course is intensive and requires night work with the emphasis on teamwork and leadership all around. The final course assessment involves leading a Pipe Band through a course demonstrating all skills learned to a satisfactory conclusion. Past courses have been highly successful and the feedback from candidates has been quite favourable. The instructional cadre are highly experienced, committed, and excellent mentors who have been involved previously on this course (1 to 3 ratio instructor to candidates). A course certificate will be issued on successful completion of the minimum standards.
