A Special General Meeting of the BC Pipers Association has been called by the BCPA Board of Directors for Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 3:00 – 5:00pm in the Halpern Centre, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus.
At site registration will begin at 2:30 pm. Free parking will be available in C Lot from 2:00 pm to 11:30 pm on the day.

The topic is “The Future of the Scottish Cultural Centre and its Impact on the BC Pipers Association”.
The meeting is intended to brief members on the BCPA’s shares in the Scottish Cultural Centre in south Vancouver, the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS) which manages the building, and the significant challenges of the building. A situation has developed in recent years where profits from Scottish cultural activities (such as the BC Highland Games) have been subsidizing the commercial operations and maintenance of a Cultural Centre in which a significant majority of the rentals are not related to Scottish activities.
The BCPA Board believes that any financial returns from the assets held by the USCS should be predominantly used to promote and advance Scottish cultural activities (including piping, drumming and pipe bands) in the Metro Vancouver area, to reverse the ongoing decline in the general public’s engagement and involvement in these important activities. The BCPA Board also believes this significant asset, namely the Scottish Cultural Centre currently valued at $4 million, is not being utilized to its full potential in supporting Scottish cultural activities.
The Board is seeking the opinions and recommendations of its members on their priorities and ideas for support for the Scottish Cultural Centre building and support for Scottish cultural activities.
