Inaugural Boney Music Invitational Feb 2016

The BCPA is pleased to announce the 2017 Boney Music Invitational Piping Competition and Recital sponsored by BCPA Life Member Andrew Bonar on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

The top five pipers in the annual BCPA Open Piping Grand Aggregate standing and the previous year’s winner of the Boney Music Invitational will each perform a medley of various musical styles. The best performance will receive the Boney Music Invitational trophy.

2017 Boney Music invitational Information

Date and Time: Saturday February 11 at 7:00 pm, Doors open at 6:30 pm

Price: Admission by donation. A donation of $10 per person is recommended. All profits will be donated to the BC Cancer FoundationFree Admission for BCPA Junior Members

BCPA is accepting donations for the event and will issue Canadian charitable tax receipts for donations of $20 or more. Donations may be made at  http://bcp3a.cloverpad.org/page-1157926  and enter “Boney Music Invitational” in the Comments field.

Location: Halpern Centre, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC.

Free parking: Free parking will be available in the East Parking Lot from 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm on the day.

Food and Bar Service: No bar or food service will be available at the Halpern Centre although non-alcoholic refreshments will be available.

Club Ilia, located on campus at the Cornerstone Building (8902 University High St, Burnaby), will be offering their dinner menu from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at a discounted price of 10% to attendees of this event.

Club Ilia is a fully licensed facility with all ages permitted.

Enjoy a discounted dinner meal at Club Ilia, and then attend a great night of fine piping by BCPA’s top Open pipers.

Competition Format:

Boney Music Invitational Trophy

Boney Music Invitational Trophy

Players will play a 20 minute recital of tunes of their choice. However, within the 20 minutes, players must include the following:

  • Ground of a piobaireachd
  • At least two two-parted strathspeys
  • At least one four-parted 4/4 march
  • At least one tune in 9/8
  • At least one tune written by Andrew Bonar or a tune from Boney Music Book 1

Players may tune as often and as long as they feel necessary. However, the longer the player tunes, the less time that the player has to perform, as the tuning time is included in the recital time limit.
