BCPA Special General Meeting, Annual General Meeting, and Annual Ceilidh – Nov 14, 2015

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

A Special General Meeting of the BC Pipers Association has been called by the BCPA Board of Directors for Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 1:30 – 3:15 pm in Room 10011 of Blusson Hall, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus.

At site registration will begin at 1:00 pm. Free parking will be available in B Lot from 10:00 am to 11:30 pm on the day.

The topic is “The Future of the Scottish Cultural Centre and its Impact on the BC Pipers Association”.

The meeting is intended to brief members on the BCPA’s shares in the Scottish Cultural Centre in south Vancouver, the significant challenges of the building and the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS) which manages the building, and the situation of recent years in which profits from Scottish cultural activities (such as the BC Highland Games) have been covering losses in the commercial operations and maintenance of the building.

The BCPA Board is concerned that without mitigation, decreasing funds will be available from the USCS to promote and advance Scottish cultural activities, affecting support for piping, drumming and pipe bands.

The Board is seeking the opinions and recommendations of its members on their priorities and ideas for support for the Scottish Cultural Centre building and support for Scottish cultural activities.

To ensure that members across our region can participate, the meeting will also be held as a conference call using GoToTraining. Use the following link to register for the conference call
